Is it Possible to address Blackouts Issue on North Sumatra?

Hello guys! Once again, I want to tell you my thought about addressing one issue ...... Rolling Blackouts over North Sumatra, Indonesia.

One of the biggest province on Indonesia, called North Sumatra, having almost 13 Millions people that live here. Everyday, North sumatra's resident will have "Rolling Blackouts" for 4 hours for each region. Believe me, I have felt that since childhood, because my hometown is on this province. What makes this Blackouts happen? Well, based on (Tempo.co, 2014) North Sumatra's power plants have the ability to generate 1,376 MW of electricity. The province, however, has a peak load that reaches 1,655 MW, resulting in a deficit of 279 MW of electricity. These Blackouts have made suffered and anger to every citizen, even it would make quite loss due to additional expenditure for turning-on private Generator.

The question is simple, "Is there any solution for this?"

Here's the thing, of course it can, if only, everyone can commit themselves to change the way they live.

1. North Sumatra has 1,428,479 household with certificate, if every household has 5 bulbs on their home, with the average of bulbs are 20 watt, then, we will have 142 MW worth to save each hour. By turning-off these bulbs everyday for 12 hours on the daylight.

2. Mostly people on Indonesia, will turning-on "Rice-cooker" every single time, to warm their cooked-rice. It takes 350 watts to use it. Whereas, if only we use it just for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, make it "accordance" to your portion. Then you won't need to keep the remain rice warm, isn't it?

How much will we save? Let's see that 50% household already has rice-cooker. Then, we will have 250 MW worth to save, EACH HOUR.

3. What's about Dispenser? Almost everyone has it too! And you know what? Dispenser needs 350 watt worth of electric. And believe me, every household will turning-on this, every time. Whereas, if only we use it for our needs such as make tea for Breakfast or coffee for latenight, it's only take 10 minutes to make the water's hot.

Let's say that 50% household have it, CONGRATZ, we have 250 MW worth to save.

Beside it's gonna be "Solution" for Blackouts, of course it's gonna save your own "Money" for paying your own Electric, reduce GHG emissions, and it's gonna affect your life like you never seen before. NO Blackouts, NO Debts for paying Electric, and SAVE The Earth from Global warming.

See? Once again you see how #SmallActMatters can save us to address your Life issue, right? Please share and help me to spread this to the world :) It's applicable for every Region :)

Do you guys have same issue?

PS. it's still an approximation, it could be BIGGER or SMALLER. But, I prefer to say, it's BIGGER because, the Household itself came from Household that has 'Certified Building', which means we haven't calculated the Newcommer, people who live on Boarding house, or still contract or rent a house. Yet, I estimated it with 50% household has dispenser and rice-cooker, whereas, it could be more, though!

Anyway, my thesis itself about these estimation to reduce GHG emissions by changing the way we live. Thank you guys and help me to share this idea :)

What If, Everyone Changes Their Transportation?

Hello guys!

So, I want to share my thought about "What if everyone changes their Transportation". It refers to Everyone's walking, uses bike, bus, trains, or any public Transportation. The impacts would be breathtaking because it's gonna change the way we live!

1. Goodbye Traffic jam!

Indonesia, one of country that has "worst" traffic jam in the world. Here's the examples : If you go to your office on 05.00 a.m. you can arrive on 06.00 a.m. But if you go to your office on 05.30 a.m. you will arrive on 08.00 a.m. Believe me, Indonesia's traffic jam is stressing your mind, and of course, it could make great loss for its economy growth due to lack of productivity. Just because ....... Dense population, everyone uses their private transportation, every car just take 1-2 persons, every motorcycle just take 1 person, and yes, what you'll get is this!

But, calm down! if we change it TOGETHER, not only me, but you, and them, everyone's aware with it. GOODBYE TRAFFIC JAM! Here's why :

Source : http://www.citymetric.com/

See? It's gonna change your traffic like you've never seen before :))
Let's do #SmallActMatters because it's worthy if we do it Together!

2. Goodbye Global warming!

Okey, let's calculating the Emissions. Imagine that everyday, more than thousands people would go on same direction. Okey, let's take 50 as example and those 50 person should take 10km distance. If 50 people use their own private car, and currently car will emit 237.5 gCO2 each km, then we will emit 118.75 kgCOeveryday. What if, those 50 person take bus? they will just emit 2.7 kgCO2 everyday. It's not even 3% of its emit. And yes, this will save us from Global warming though!

3. Clean Air

Ah, of course by changing your transportation, it will make our Air quality cleaner! And it will make others be comfortable to walk or cycling, it will make the atmosphere cooler! Domino's effect, isn't it?

4. Goodbye Urban Heat Island!

Well, beside the building, anthropogenic has great role to make Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon. It's the condition where Urban's temperature much higher than the rural, mostly, you can feel it on Indonesia's cities such as Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, Medan, Surabaya, and etc. It's because our dense population and ..... the transportation itself. It can make depressed. If we change our transportation, there would be no Air pollution (that's being UHI Trigger) and make the environment cooler. So yeah, goodbye UHI!

See? So many things can happen to use while we're changing something, even it's just a little thing! Because #SmallActMatters when we do it TOGETHER! Let's do #ActOnClimate, guys!

Welcome 2016 ! Goodbye 2015! You guys were Awesome !

Ah,
So which of the favors of your Lord will you deny? (QS. Ar-Rahman)
The basic question to achieve more !

Talking about 2015 can create a Novel I guess. Having so much great time with so much interesting people that Inspired me a Lot ! Like a whole lot !

Having so many achievements that I've never imagined before, giving so many priceless Experiences have taught me about this beatiful Life. So yeah, eventhough, sometimes I was thinking "What am I studying about?" on my major (because it's so complicated and had no idea at all), but 2015 was not that bad. Seriously, guys, need to be more grateful thought.

So, let's see what I was getting here.

1. Being Participant on Indofood Leadership Camp Batch VII

Hmmmmmm, learning leadership skills with Indonesian Army ? Seriously? What's greater than that? Meeting with so many future leaders that - I couldn't say a thing - about them. The idea was not only getting the matters, but how could I expand my Networking with others participants from 18 Universities in Indonesia. Seriously, eventhough it spent like zillion times, having thousand obstacles within it, of course so -fuckin- tired. But ..... Let's see how they keep cheering me out to be stronger and stronger ! Yeah, GO platoon 4 ! Go platoon 4 ! Engaging for 10 days brought us to be Family, that's being seperated between time and space huhuhuhuhu. Love you guys ! <3

2. Ganeca Prize Finalist

Hmmmmmmm, actually, this was one of my -have no idea, didn't even expect- achievement ever. Seriously, although this one on my 2015 Resolution, I've never expect that I would be the one who will be the Finalist on Ganeca prize. In the middle of hectic semester (with so many to do assignments, and of course the unbearable obstacles), should prepare paper, presentation, and do responsibilities. So yeah, what I did just "do the best, and expect the worst". That's all. Not even more. So, when the time comes, what I need to do is just doing a little preparation (Thanks for my dearest friends that have pushed me to break the limits) , and after that, "Ok, bye, need to do more stuff thought."

But the result was breathtaking ..... Being delegate from my department and faculty ..... To be one of finalist, and saw so many great people with great achievements they have got. Thank you ! You guys have slapped and pushed me to be a better person (indirectly).

3. BEYOND (Be a Young Hero on Disasters) Delegate

Wah wah, This one was  really great ! Being -unexpected- participant thought. Because, actually, I was not the chosen one, but being the Substitute delegate. Believe it or not, I was preparing my internship on Ministry of Environmental and Forestry, but then, there're a call from bang Yusuf that told me I was the one. "Are you available?" I answered "OMG YES !"

Wuff, from Bogor to Bandung ! This was my very first experience for participating this kind of Event. So, I'm quite nervous, trying to introduce myself with other delegate, so yeah, They're extremely cool ! Having great achievements on their life, being Delegate, Representative, Ambassador on "this" and "that" event, a leader on "this" and "that" NGO, already did something to local communities. HUFT! Beyond ASEAN had opened my mind wider ! I was thinking "Phew, What am I doing while being students, ha? What have I done to society?"

So, getting the matters about Pitching the Ideas, how to sell it, how to see and solve society problem, how to reduce the Local community vulnerability for Disaster. Furthermore, How to create a social project, and Alhamdulillah, me and my team's project called Disaster Creative Mapping and Education (DCME) being granteed for 300USD. And I am doing it now. Hope it would be succees thought.

Thank you Beyond ASEAN!

4. Asia-Pacific Urban Youth Assembly (APUFY) 2015 Delegate

Huoooo, this one was Big ! Asia-pacific Level? Idk, this one gave me a lot of things ! Meeting so many great people with great achievements, and have done something big to Society! Several participant came from Beyond ASEAN, so, we're having a little Reunion thought. Like always, the main event focused to give the Youth a new perspective for solving Urban problems. Having 16 parallel session that each participant only can choose 4 session. Because I was my Association Representative, that has one big project towards sustainable urban development for Disaster, I chose "Mobilizing for Change : Tomorrow's leaders Taking Action Today", "Investing in Youth Innovation", and "Youth Leadership in Disasters and Beyond".

The speakers were amazing Youth that has led local or International organization/initiative level which is so great. One special thing, I could expand more International networking and this was monster ! Thanks APUFY!

(Roommates brother!)

5. Presenter on 5th Annual Symposium of Asian iNstitute for Environmental and enerGY (A.NERGY) 2015

Nope, I am not being Alay or Jeje or something, A.NERGY is one of International Researcher Association for Environment. They have student session, in which every student presents their research about Environment. I was presenting about "Pre-Study on Potential Feasibility of Wind Energy on Banten", seeing how big the wind energy potential based on 2 years observation data and How much GHG emission reduction potential if it's implemented.

Well, forget about the matters! What makes it so great was, one day after attending APUFY, I was boarding to Korea, and guess what, this was my very first time to travel abroad ! Anyway, behind the scenes and how hard the struggles was the spicy for this Adventure ! You can say, almost all of the expenses paid by Sponsors :""""")

The most important thing was getting another International Networking between future Researchers and environmentalist. Most of them came from Environmental Engineering students, few of us struggling with Architecture, Chemical Engineering, and Meteorology hoho.

Traveling on Incheon (Business district, kind of Sudirman Jakarta, with no traffic jam) and Seoul (quite dense but having very nice culture), talking about their Culture and their perception about us, Indonesian, that's so loud as fvck (seriously). Aaaaaaaaaaa, so great! I'm confused to tell my stories here !!!

(Student Presenters)

(Welfie after presenting!)

(Me with taiwaneses)

Gwanghwamun :D

(Delicious Bulgogi !!!)

(Delicious Bibimbap!!!)

(Incheon National University)

(Meong-dong not gong-gong dong)

Kyaaaaa ! At last ! 2015 was so Awesome ! Once again, I would like to say

So which of the favors of your Lord will you deny? (QS. Ar-Rahman)
Grateful is great power to reach Happiness ! Being grateful would give you more energy, to decrease the negative thinking about "What I need to regret". The question is simple "Why'd you need to regret, when you have more to be grateful?" Ask yourself for the answer, and be ready for Smiling with everything you have and achieved hoho

2015 was awesome ! But, Hello 2016, hope you can be better than last year.

Sincerely
Rafi

A Journey Through the Time and Space

So, what are you thinking when you heard "Time and Space" at the same time?
As a meteorologist, I remember this as Advection ..... Nah~ Not really. So, time and space is really something to me. I see time and space with different ways. I connect them with my Life, my walkthrough, quality, quantity, and yes, they're binding, they unseperatable, and together they move forward without looking into the Back. Seeing time and space is kind of seeing your journey through Life. Having family, friends, experiences, loves, anything. Everything's bond on time and space, sometimes it's getting bigger, tighter, but sometimes it's just being weaker, and even dissapear. And then, suddently something passed through my mind
Is it really dissapear?
I guess not! According to "Law of Conservation energy" stated that "Energy can't be created or destroyed", I think it's not really dissapear. It just moves into another dimension, which once again, has time and space.

As one of "Feeling" person, I see time and space much wierd. Thinking that everything is not that simple, thinking that everything is predictable, as long as you know the pattern, which way it's gonna go. How big the capacity, how it is gonna end or .... when it will be dissapear and change to be something that you can't even believe that exist.

Talking about feeling is really something. It's invisible, can't view or touch it, but still you can feel it. Like wind, temperature, and pressure. It's measurable! What you need is just finding the instrument, and once again, time and space could be the tools. Changing quality into quantity or vice versa. Time is quality, space is quantity, you can change it into what you want, what you feel it is right, and enjoy it by yourself.

Time and space bond Love .... You need space to love someone, but it's moving forward through time. Bonding them to make it stronger, bigger, and greater. Time and space won't lie, time and space can be the answer .... but you need effort to ask them. So ask them !

Ah, time and space, such happy things having you in here, in my feel, in my mind, with every single possiblities you sketch. Huh~ Beautiful!

...........

So, tonight, I don't know what I feel

I feel confused, sad, angry, it's all mixed into one.
These feelings come after that one problem comes.
At first, I'm literally angry, I just want to curse him. I even said any bad words you know. I hate him, a lot. I would not tell you who he is, but I hate him a lot!
Second, I'm confused. I'm confused with my life, I'm confused what just happened to us, I even asked my self what's wrong. What's wrong with our life, what's wrong with everything I've done. Is there something wrong with us? Why did us get this kind of problem? Ah ! Confused ! Even, I'm confused with the solution. As if, I've found the greatest problem on my life, but it's hard to solve it ! It's harder than finding the solution for Dynamical Meteorology. Literally !
Sad. This feeling succeed to make me cry. Crying for thinking about it. Sad because I'm angry. Sad because I'm confused !
This might the worst blogging I've ever written.
You don't need to read it, you don't need to think it, just let me keep it myself, because this is the way I am.

Hate This Feeling ! - Lonely

Because ....

But ....

So, stay Positive !

Gadget? Nope Nope Nope

Ah, recently, I am kind of Adventurer that travel into several city by taking several kind of Transportation. I am often taking public transportation such as Bus and Train. First, I want to give a special thanks to my Aunt that give me permission to leave on her house and apartment, give me so much facility such as Internet, food, and etc. What a luck to have you aunt :))

So tonight I want to share thing about "How to see the World ...." I got this idea so suddenly, because I was remembered about several things that happened when I was riding public transportation. And the reason is simple, I could see it because I don't have any particular gadget that could distract me for not seeing the world the way it is. I'm feeling grateful because I don't have that kind of facility, I don't have gadget that usually distract my friends by seeing their social media such as Instagram or Facebook, and usually distract them to -you know- open their account and updating where they are, playing games, or even, listening music by using Headset and then they just .... try to close their eyes and get some sleep.

So, rafi, only has Nokia within type 2690, that it does have camera (but with VGA quality) that makes me not really use it, and it surely has Music Application, but... because the battery is often getting low, I prefer not use it because I literally need it to contact and text my friends. Literally. So, I'm just using for phoning and texting after all. Even, to save the batteries, I usually turn off my phone and turn on it when I had arrived.

Several things I literally grateful for are ....
1. I could enjoy my trip and use it for .... Sleeping !

I wake up on 3 (because my auntie woke me up everyday), and doing my things such as charging the Batteries, taking shower, looking the route of Public transportation, and ... on 5 a.m. I should go to train station, which takes about 30-45 minutes, and .... waiting for the train, often not getting a seat because It's really crowd up there, if I'm lucky, I could get one, and .... Of course, try to get some sleep by using it. FYI, using train to my office, is taking 2 hours, literally. So, It's gonna be fucked up if you don't get some seat. I have experienced it, totally. But, Luckily, because I don't have any gadget on it, I could see how Jakarta or Bogor's society work. I realize that this society still stubborn, selfish, and not even think about others, but, when you think it again, when you see it again, it's not that bad. Because .... They're struggling with their life, you know, they can't be late or something (Because when they did, perhaps they could get punishment or something), or .... It's ok for them to stand up along the way, because, the faster they arrived, the longer they have time to Sleep on their office.

When I was on it, I saw these kind of "Bapak-bapak" that always angry with everything, but that makes sense because these crowded sometimes make something funny thought. I remembered when a lot of people scream "WOY! IT DOESN'T FIT AT ALL !" or ... "WOY ! IT'S TOO TIGHT ! YOU CAN'T BE HERE." and many things happened. Some would give up, but some, would try even harder to reach the train. If I count, I guess it takes 20-30 minutes to close the door of the train (Totally narrow and be forced). Moreover, when kind of "mamak-mamak" be recessive, what they do is just Scream and .... gibber. Funny ? Totally !

Beside looking at some kind of accident like that,

It's gonna be different if .... I took Bus on it, it's more expensive, but, we usually get some seat. If don't we could sit on the floor. So, everything should be calculated to save more money. Ah, what a life!

2. I could be grateful for everything I have

Believe me, so much things you could see in this world. It's gonna be so unfortunate if you don't see somthing that you should see. On my way when I went to office, Bogor, Jakarta, and even when I was on Bandung, I see a lot of things ! Literally. I saw someone much detail. Example, when there are street singers, I saw them a lot, I listened to them, sometimes I enjoyed them, sometimes I just didn't. I'm gonna see them and assess them, Are they young? Are they disabilities? Are they good? Not to mention, but I am kind of Judging person. But, judging is important for me, I want to help someone because something, not just because want them to go faster. And you know what, by doing this, you can train your Empathy emotional, and it's kind of important EQ thought. So ....Enjoy your world ! Anyway, sometimes by seeing them, what you can do is simply one, Being graceful for everything you have, you achieve, and your condition right now. Because you have no idea how big their struggle through their life :))

3. Improve your Social EQ

Well, of course it is. And it should seems like it. If you can see how our society today that much enjoyed themself through social Media. That, honestly, dissociate the close one, and vice versa. Is it good? Sometimes it is, sometimes isn't. Me, as the one who's not really using social media (except for looking information about event), feeling disturb when all of my hanging out friends just looking their hp all the time. Kind of "Really nigga?". I often advice them to Enjoy this trip and just look into the real world. Literally. Because it's so sad when you planned to have fun with your friends but .... they just stared at their phone and communicate with you occasionally. HUFT !

Although there must be one thing I hate, NO CAMERA (Actually there is, but, good bye, the quality is suck!) Sometimes I just wanna take some pictures to be a memory .... But, nay. Because I can't.

Overall, I enjoy my self uwooo !
